    On 26 December 2010, the SOHO spacecraft clocked up its 2,000th comet. Helping in its quest, a network of devoted amateur astronomers keenly pores over each image acquired by the probe’s U.S.-European coronagraph.

  2. 20 years in orbit for the Proteus satellite bus

    The bus is a key element of a satellite, supplying power and enabling the spacecraft to be controlled from the ground. CNES has specialized in designing satellite buses since the 1990s. This year, its Proteus bus clocked up its 20th year in orbit.

  3. Fukushima- Forecasting radiation dispersal at sea

    In the wake of the nuclear accident at Fukushima in Japan, the SIROCCO research group in Toulouse, overseen by CNES, has been simulating the dispersal of contamination at sea using imagery from the Jason and Envisat satellites.
